THE ORIGINAL CORICIDIN BOTTLE
GUITAR SLIDE, BY THE REAL BOTTLENECKING COMPANY |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Inspired by real life, the great slide
guitarists played using Coricidin. Cough & Cold Medicine bottles
straight from their medicine cabinets. Whether or not the medicine
worked, the tones that legendary bottle could evoke from the guitar
were certain to cure whatever ailed you.
Lightweight and small, exactly the right feel
and weight for quick, sure positioning, the bottle fit nicely on the
finger with just enough play for sensitivity, and could make a
guitar sound like nothing else. The resonance and sustain offered by
the Coricidin. bottle was unattainable from metal or other glass
slides. |

|
|
| |
Generations of slide players used it, but in
the late Seventies the glass Coricidin. bottle was banned under
Federal child-proofing regulations. The new plastic bottles were
safer for kids, but no bargain for the slide guitar afficionados who
had come to depend on the resonance and sustain achievable with
Coricidin. bottles, and found themselves paying up to $20.00 apiece
(in 1975 dollars!!!) for the original bottles scavenged from the
back of medicine cabinets. |

In 1985, Scott "Blue" Bernstein
invented a Pyrex re-creation of the Coricidin. bottle after
the glass medicine bottles were removed from the market. Scott
founded The Real Bottlenecking Company to market his original
Coricidin Guitar
Slide.
Seventeen years ago, The Real
Bottlenecking Company painstakingly re-created the legendary
Coricidin. medicine bottle for serious guitar players. A true
American original, the original Coricidin Guitar Slide was
not only the first and finest available anywhere, it's also a
legend in guitar history, used by generations of bluesmen and
made famous by Duane
Allman, who used it throughout his career.

Each Original Coricidin Guitar Slide is
hand-made from Pyrex. and subjected to quality control procedures
that ensure a perfect glass slide in every package. Real
Bottlenecking's slide is hand-lathed from Pyrex. on a glass-lathing
machine, then each slide is torched and annealed in a specialized
oven. The result is actually an improvement on the original bottle:
Real Bottlenecking's slide is seamless (the original bottle was
molded and had two seams), highly break-resistant, and has the warm
tone and incredible sustain that built the legend. |
